Founder

Robert Powell founded Bromegrass Capital in 2019. Like the resilient, sustaining prairie grass that inspires its name, Bromegrass Capital is native to the Kansas City region. Bromegrass Capital is 100% self-funded, committed to retaining local ownership and management of the companies in which it invests. Deeply rooted in the midwestern values of family, trust, respect for others and reliability, Bromegrass Capital seeks to honor the owners’ legacy in every acquisition, while propelling sustainable growth.

His previous work experience includes nearly five years in Global Prairie’s Washington, DC office serving a variety of clients involved in the federal government, agriculture, technology, and healthcare industries. Robert’s work with his clients included corporate reputation management, crisis response communication, M&A transactions, stakeholder engagement, and big data analysis.

His professional career also includes time in Boston, MA as a member of the Romney campaign policy department with a portfolio that heavily focused on federal agencies, agriculture and tax issues. As part of his work in the policy department, Robert drafted communication response plans and policy platform messages. He also traveled across the US to audit and lead ballot access progress in key primary states.

Robert’s proudest professional experience is the time that he spent working in a salt mine in Lyons, Kansas. Each day for a summer, Robert would arrive at work at 4:30am and take the 1,000ft ‘bucket’ ride down with his fellow miners. It was an experience that he carries with him today by always keeping a salt rock on his desk.

Robert, who has roots in Kansas City, MO, holds an MBA from the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School and an MA from the University of Virginia’s College of Arts and Sciences. Robert’s philanthropic efforts include the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the American Red Cross, and College Bound.
